Chill, v. i. (Metal.)
To become surface-hardened by sudden cooling while
solidifying; as, some kinds of cast iron chill to a
greater depth than others.


Chilled (?), a. 1.
Hardened on the surface or edge by chilling; as,
chilled iron; a chilled wheel.


2. (Paint.) Having that cloudiness
or dimness of surface that is called "blooming."

1. A state or sensation of being chilly; a
disagreeable sensation of coldness.


2. A moderate degree of coldness;
disagreeable coldness or rawness; as, the chilliness of
the air.
